Falmouth University is changing the way Higher Education is delivered. Our “doing-it-for-real” ethos means that we are planning for the needs of the future economy, ensuring our students and staff have the skills they need to stay relevant in a changing world. For more than 100 years, Falmouth has been at the forefront of using creative thinking as a force for positive economic impact in Cornwall and beyond. Today, our courses represent the entirety of the creative industries, from art and design to gaming and film, while our post-graduate programmes and research and innovation are aligned to defined market needs in high-growth sectors.

Launchpad is an innovative software and games studio incubator/accelerator within Falmouth University which generates companies that meet proven market needs. We assemble founding teams, partner them with established players such as the BBC, AWS and Sony Interactive Entertainment, train and mentor them in business and product development, and assist them in gaining investment to launch high-growth businesses.

Having successfully built five teams in 2017/18, including two that are games studios, we are scaling to fifteen companies in 2018/19 and a further twenty in 2019/20. This is an opportunity to be right on the cutting edge of the application of games technology not only to entertainment, but also healthcare, industry, marine, finance, aerospace and a host of other areas.

You will work closely with a number of our founding teams, providing advice, mentoring and assistance to them in games engines and related technologies. Where teams are lacking in skills or aptitude, you will identify this and either provide or source appropriate training or consultancy to assist them. You will help these teams to adopt Scrum to build effective delivery teams and systems. In summary, you will provide every reasonable assistance to help the Launchpad founders build disruptive products that provide engaging experiences to their customers, and form the basis of high-growth businesses.

Playing your part in the Launchpad team, you will keep a close eye on where games technology is going, and provide advice on where it could applied to challenges from our partners, and the general utilisation of games technology within Launchpad.   We are seeking someone with knowledge and experience of game development in Unity or Unreal to a senior level. As a top candidate for the position, you will not only have used these engines in a professional capacity, but will have provided technical leadership for games development teams. You will have a strong understanding of Scrum or other agile development practices, and have applied these in a professional situation. You will also have a passion for mentoring others into higher performance.
