Job Description Gamer Network, part of ReedPop, runs the UK's major gaming and pop culture events EGX and MCM Comic Con.

As part of the marketing team that supports and delivers both, this new Merchandise Manager role is an exciting opportunity responsible for the development and execution of UK merchandise plans across all 8 UK events in the portfolio, as well as supporting the merchandise expansion of our editorial brands.

The role will drive a growth area of the business, working with several internal teams and managing external agencies and vendors, combining creativity with high levels of business acumen, organisation and execution.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, UK, the Merchandise Manager, will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing and bringing exceptional and desirable products to market, delivering on our ambition to improve pre-sale, on-site sales and direct to customer opportunities.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver a 1, 3 and 5 year merchandise strategy with Head of Marketing.
  • Deliver merchandise plans that are aligned with the wider event strategy vision and goals.
  • Onsite Management of Official MCM and EGX Merchandise Stores, including stand build, branding and staffing.
  • Catalogue management to maximise ROI through effective product lifecycle planning. 
  • Management of all costs associated with merchandise.
  • Provide regular sales reports providing analysis on sales performances and trends, adjusting our product offering accordingly based on pre-defined KPIs.
  • Tracking performance versus objectives  for each show.  
  • Maintaining accurate inventory reports, ensuring re-orders are processed in a timely manner to reflect demand.  
  • Work closely with the wider event marketing team to build effective marketing campaigns and assets that will achieve pre-order and on-site sales targets, as well as the content team on site to ensure effective promotion of merchandise through stage and other relevant show features.  
  • Champion the merchandise products, ensuring strong product knowledge across the wider events team, briefing suitable teams eg customer services in regards to post-sales policies and processes.    
  • Curate, produce and manage sales and lifecycle of show and brand specific merchandise lines, working with the marketing and content teams to establish and maximise any collaboration opportunities that exist with key show content partners or guests.
  • Development and delivery of market research to help identify new and relevant merchandise trends, building product lines and evolving the plans to reflect the needs and desires of our various audiences. 
  • Day to day management of merchandise platform and administration.
  • Liaise with Audience Development Director and Head of Marketing to develop merchandise that supports our editorial brands (including Eurogamer, VG247, RPS, Dicebreaker, Outside Xbox etc).
  • Work closely with the Global Merchandise team to maximise existing licensing opportunities with eg Marvel, as well as develop local licensing opportunities, and bring innovative new tactics and products to our UK shows
  • Work closely with teams around the business including Tech and Editorial.  
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships, identifying and evaluating new vendors and negotiating on prices.
  • Improve the overall sustainability of ReedPop UK merchandise, working with suppliers who share our values.    
  • Supporting the marketing team to produce value add items for our high value ticket types and ticket package programmes and the wider events team with effective management of other non-retail products such as staff and crew t-shirts and apparel.  

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication, and organisational skills.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of creative processes and an eye for both for product and store designs. 
  • Previous working experience within retail/e-tail/store environments.
  • Experience of cross functional working and relationship building with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong commercial acumen and budget responsibility.
  • An interest in developing future merchandising strategies.
  • A passion for Pop Culture.
