ReedPop is looking for a Deputy Editor for Eurogamer to help lead the site alongside the Editor-in-Chief, developing and identifying opportunities for audience growth, working with the staff writers to ensure timely production of articles, and upholding the unique style and values of the site.
Eurogamer has built a reputation for delivering the best video games editorial in the industry, across interviews, reviews, features, guides and analysis. The successful applicant will have substantial video game journalism or published writing experience, preferably as an online section editor, and be full of talent, ambition and ideas to produce, report on and reflect the vibrant games industry. You will be required to regularly write and generate ideas for features and other website content.
As a Deputy Editor, you will work with, and when necessary direct, our highly experienced editorial team and freelancers, with day-to-day support from the Editor-in-Chief (EiC). You’ll be working closely with the EiC to create and implement new strategies to grow Eurogamer, and also create and structure content that will retain and grow our readership.
Responsibilities Include:

To identify new growth opportunities for Eurogamer both editorially and commercially.

To conceive your own pitches and angles and conduct interviews with developers, publishers and other leading games industry figures.

To support the EiC on a daily basis, and to run Eurogamer in the EIC's absence.

Deliver accurate, clear and concise copy to hourly, daily and weekly deadlines, following well defined editorial standards.

To commission, direct and edit the copy of others to maintain Eurogamer’s voice and standards.

Monitor analytics and trends data to ascerain editorial opportunities and to support editorial decision making.

Work closely with PRs and other contacts to go deeper on stories and articles.

Work in our CMS to make sure stories meet a high standard of presentation.

Collaborate with the entire editorial team on all aspects of our coverage.
Required Skills and Experience:

Substantial previous experience editing or leading of an industry website or section.

Managing other staff, inspiring them and pushing them to produce their best work.

An understanding of how the business of video games operates - which products sell strongly, latest industry developments and the key players in the market.

Ability to identify industry trends.

Willingness to secure interviews and ask tough questions.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Positive attitude and a team mentality.

Passion and excitement about video games and the industry.
Desirable Skills and Experience:

A journalism qualification or degree in a relevant subject.

Experience with social media (linkedin) and knowledge of associated industries (music, movies, sports, etc)
