Editor-in-Chief, VG247 - ReedPop

ReedPop is looking for a new Editor-in-Chief to lead VG247 and its team on the site’s quest to be the most entertaining in games media. The successful candidate will ensure VG247 adapts to the ever-changing video game landscape and its audience, grows its fan base on the website and other platforms, and strengthens its global reputation. 

This is a senior role on one of ReedPop’s most significant editorial brands, and requires outstanding editorial judgement paired with the desire to expand VG247’s reach worldwide. 

This multifaceted role will challenge the successful candidate to get the best out of VG247’s editorial group as we head into an exciting new phase for the industry and video game media. With 2023 promising to deliver a number of significant new game releases, dramatic industry developments and the emergence of audiences on new platforms, the VG247 Editor-in-Chief has the opportunity to make their mark with a special brand and a special team that has carved out a distinct voice. 

Responsibilities Include: 

• In collaboration with the Deputy Editorial Director, develop and deliver a strategy for expanding VG247's audience on the site and external platforms, while maintaining quality and editorial standards 

• Lead the editorial team, setting the vision and ensuring collaboration across news, features, video and guides to deliver growth in traffic, video views and influence 

• Work with the Deputy Editorial Director and the Video Producer to deliver a successful video strategy in line with VG247’s brand values 

• Work with the ReedPop events team to ensure VG247 is represented at our events worldwide 

• Represent VG247 to the industry, building and maintaining relationships with key companies, teams and individuals 

• Ensure VG247 remains focused on reporting, analysis and insight in the gaming space, with a specific voice and tone that fits the site 

• Ensure that VG247 continues to tell diverse stories from diverse creators that represent and celebrate the best of the gaming space, and deliver on ReedPop’s commitment to diversity and inclusion 

• Own the editorial calendar, identifying the key games, people, and topics that VG247 needs to cover and doing so in a way that ensures success 

• Work with the subscriptions team to develop the VG247 Supporter Program, to deliver a successful service to dedicated readers 

• Work with the commercial team to support delivery of commercial projects without compromising editorial values 

• Represent the brand externally through media and event appearances in the UK and internationally 

Required Skills and Experience: 

• Editorial experience managing a team of writers in a busy, vibrant online publishing environment 

• Experience in editorial strategy and execution 

• Proven leadership skills in an editorial environment and experience delivering new, exciting editorial initiatives 

• Experience managing budgets and commissioning written content 

• Familiarity with content management systems 

• Familiarity with traffic reporting tools, such as Google Analytics

• An understanding of how to create content that reaches a wide audience, through search, social and other platforms 

• Excellent verbal written communication skills 

Desirable Skills and Experience: 

• Communication within a large-scale business, representing a brand to the wider business 

• Developing and building team culture 

• Familiarity with building a presence on external platforms
