Junior Narrative Designer

Crytek is looking for a passionate, imaginative Junior Narrative Designer to join the Hunt: Showdown team full time. The successful candidate will become a key member of our narrative team, with a focus on supporting live events for Hunt: Showdown.  Our ideal candidate will bring strong writing skills and a general foundation of technical knowledge to the table. As a writer, you should be able to pivot between different styles, formats, and tones across multiple projects. (Please provide writing samples that show off this breadth!) Your focus on live event writing will include close collaboration with our marketing team to create lore-related out-of-game content, and close collaboration with the game team for in-game event-related writing. You will also have ownership over our lore archive, which provides the team with an invaluable resource for reference as the product continues to grow. Flexibility, creative problem solving, cross-team communication, and attention to detail are key skills in every aspect of the job.  Our team is highly collaborative, and our ideal candidate is an able collaborator. The ideal candidate can constructively give and receive clear feedback, can work across departments to develop storytelling elements and the systems that support them, and is interested in transmedial opportunities for storytelling.   Please upload 1-3 creative writing samples, combined into one pdf, via the online application under “portfolio.” If including excerpts from longer pieces, please include a few sentences providing context. Responsibilities

  • Design. You will take an active role in the development the game’s narrative design, in close collaboration with the game team. This will include concepting, implementing, and iterating.
  • Write. Your main writing focus will be on world building, ie franchise continuity and reference material. You will be responsible for maintaining a world lore wiki (history, science, etc) and communicating across departments to ensure the cohesion and continuity of the game world. In-game, your writing focus would be environmental, requiring the ability to switch between styles, tones, and genres as required.  
  • Collaborate. Cross-departmental communication will be key to this role, requiring adept communication skills, a spot-on sense of tone and creative vision, adaptability, an understanding of the relationship between gameplay and story, and ability to give and take clear and constructive feedback. 
  • Requirements:

  • Outstanding English communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Proofreading experience (American English grammar) 
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback, and to iterate on your work  
  • Interest in and passion for video game narrative, interactive storytelling, and transmedial entertainment 
  • Plusses

  • General knowledge of CRYENGINE or another game engine
  • General scripting knowledge (Python and/or C++)   
  • Familiarity with Excel, JIRA, Word, Teams
