Principal Gameplay Programmer - C++ Remote (UK only)
World leader in developing VR titles are looking for a Principal Gameplay Programmer, C++ to proviude expertise across their four studios.
We are looking for an experienced engineering lead for our Core Development team. They will take ownership of the shared systems that power our first-person VR titles. Alongside our studios, they’ll collaboratively drive our best-in-class VR traversal and interaction systems, ensuring that our reusable components can be easily adopted and customized. They will guide feature development to ensure world-leading functionality and performance.
A creative, organized generalist with a love of VR and immersive entertainment would be ideal for this role. Someone who can balance pragmatic engineering, durable architecture and a great user experience for single and multiplayer titles.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop re-usable Unreal Engine plugins, which provide game features and productivity tools to multiple studios.
Technically innovate in the field of first-person interaction and embodiment – collaborate with the game teams to build novel solutions to unsolved problems.
Oversee code quality and documentation, integrating work from live projects.
Evangelize the tech with compelling samples, demos and rapid prototyping.
Requirements
Essential capabilities:
5+ years of professional programming experience, with a minimum of one shipped title on a current-generation console, PC, VR headset or mobile.
Experience leading engineering teams or projects – able to gather client requirements, maintain a backlog, define milestones and a roadmap, and estimate work reliably.
A thorough knowledge of C++ including high-performance programming.
Fluent in applying 3D math principles to real-time programming – matrices, quaternions, vectors etc.
Good English communication skills with an ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical staff.
A supportive collaborator, recognizing the importance and value of people within a technology environment.
Desired experience:
Comfortable using and customizing Unreal Engine 4/5, including its plugin architecture, gameplay framework, animation system and replication model.
Experience programming for virtual reality experiences; aware of VR control methods, comfort considerations, etc.
Experience developing for PlayStation, Steam or Oculus/Meta.
Rapid prototyping experience.
