Wessex Archaeology is one of the UK’s leading providers of archaeological and heritage services, and a charity seeking to promote the education of the public in: science, the arts, culture, and heritage.
Our Studio comprises an exciting and innovative blend of illustrators, animators, designers, 2D and 3D artists, along with videographers. We provide a comprehensive and professional set of heritage interpretation services. We are constantly developing new and creative ways to engage people with their heritage by bringing the past to life.
We are offering a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic developer to join our Studio. The successful candidate will be working alongside our existing 3D and 2D content creators. Using Unreal Engine and Visual Studio you will help develop an exciting range of heritage-based experiences for our clients across multiple platforms including VR, AR, touchscreen interfaces and mobile devices.
Based in either our Salisbury, Bristol or Sheffield office, the successful candidate will have the programming skills to create a variety of content for both our commercial clients and to meet our charitable educational objectives.
As a member of our Studio, they will receive the training and support required to expand their knowledge about the heritage sector and to develop their existing programming skills. This will enable them to build an exciting career within the heritage profession. Working alongside a diverse, innovative and experienced set of creatives, they will be encouraged to explore new ways to serve up heritage content in engaging and informative ways.

This is a new role within the Wessex Archaeology Studio and is initially a one-year contract. A relocation package may also be available.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about presenting heritage to a wide audience through digital media. They will be open to learning and thrive when working in collaboration with other likeminded creatives.
- Experience with C++
- Good working knowledge of Unreal Engine
- Ability to modify and build engine source code
- Experience with Visual Studio
- Experience with UE blueprints
- Experience of AR/VR development
Additional skills an advantage:
- A bachelor's degree in a related field
- Experience with UI/UX
- Experience of games development
- Good collaborative worker
