Job Description An Amsterdam-based games company seeks an experienced developer to join a new internal team. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and a talented technical individual, who will form part of a multi-disciplinary R&D team exploring everything from new gameplay techniques to tools for art & terrain generation.

Responsibilities:

Procedural Environment Artists research, develop and maintain technologies (integrations, tools, pipelines) that automate the authoring (generation, population) of game worlds.

Acting as a lynchpin between technical, artistic, and design stakeholders, Procedural Environment Artists blend strong technical skills with a creative vision and passion for creating game worlds.

Research
  • Elicit, analyse, and harmonise environment requirements across various disciplines.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of procedural game-authoring technologies, and identify opportunities in developing trends.
  • Evaluate and integrate procedural technologies in collaboration with external partners.
  • Create and evaluate rapid technical prototypes / proof-of-concepts.

Develop
  • Design and implement elegant environment-authoring solutions that balance technical and artistic quality.
  • Profile, optimise and enhance existing graphics technologies (rendering, lighting, shaders, shadows, scene management, and others).
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to establish technical standards / workflows and help ensure that assets / code perform according to spec.

Requirements:
  • Extensive games industry experience.
  • Shipped titles in an Environment (design, art, or equivalent) role.
  • Demonstrable familiarity with procedural content-authoring technologies.
  • Knowledge of design and technical design methodologies.
  • Experience developing large-scale / open-world / sandbox games.
  • Good knowledge of C/C++/C#.
  • Experience creating, altering and communicating development pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English.
  • Proficiency in documentation and knowledge transfer.

Desired:
  • Experience developing large-scale / open-world / sandbox games.
  • Familiarity with Physically Based Rendering and related concepts.
  • Excellent working knowledge Digital Content Creation tools (Maya, 3ds Max, Substance).
  • Experience in a senior role.
  • AAA / console game development experience.
  • Experience developing with Unity.
  • Familiarity with build systems and script languages.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technical skills and techniques.
  • Proficiency in documentation and communication.
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian software development and collaboration tools.
  • Experience working in diverse, multinational teams.
  • Practical experience using a variety of modern game engines and tools.
  • Fluency in Dutch and Korean languages.
