We are looking for a Backend Engineer who will work on our upcoming AAA title Contraband - a co-op smuggler’s paradise game set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan. Contraband is a brand-new IP published by Xbox Game Studios.
In this role, you will be working with the Backend Platform Lead and project Technical Director to prepare the game’s server technology for game launch and far beyond. While the position is a full-time role, Avalanche supports a hybrid on-site/from-home setup.
What you'll do.
- Engage in teamwork with a dedicated group of backend engineers focused on maintaining and advancing the game's technological infrastructure.
- Participate in the design and development stages, actively contributing to the backend architecture for an evolving live service video game.
- Work on scaling the game's backend process to support a growing user base and an expanding array of services.
- Engage with a broad spectrum of backend technologies, adapting and innovating within a dynamic and fluid gaming environment.
- Primarily use C# to create and maintain backend functionalities, leveraging your expertise in the language for optimal performance.
- Adapt and tailor 3rd party microservices, ensuring they are fit for purpose within the game's unique ecosystem.
- Bridge the gap between C# and C++ development environments, facilitating a seamless and efficient integration of backend services with the game's core systems.
- Craft and maintain robust, high-quality APIs that enable other game development teams to effortlessly access and interact with backend services.
Who you are.
- A great mindset for problem-solving and technical excellence
- Knowledge of backend microservice architecture and programming in C#
- Demonstrable practical experience with C++
- Awareness of cost-efficiently running services in commercial cloud environments
- Awareness of scaling backend infrastructure to meet high availability requirements
- Excellent verbal and written English

- Experience working in the Video Game industry
- Experience working with telemetry and data pipelines
- Experience working with content delivery networks
- Experience working with infrastructure as code
- Practical experience with Azure and PlayFab
