About Reforged Studios
At Reforged Studios, we specialise in unlocking the full creative and commercial potential of game studios. Founded by industry veterans Peter van der Watt, Colin Anderson, and Ross Laurie, our aim is to centralise the business and marketing functions for each of these studios under one roof, allowing them to focus solely on what they do best — making great games.
Our most recent acquisitions include Ground Shatter, the Bristol-based developers of BAFTA nominated card-based tactical fighter “Fights in Tight Spaces” and the forthcoming “Knights in Tight Spaces” - and Extra Mile Studios, the Glasgow-based Co-Development veterans with over 20 years’ experience bringing entertainment licences from around the world to life.
Joining Reforged Studios today will give the right candidate the opportunity to join a well-funded start-up on the ground floor while we build a world-class games company that aims to deliver pioneering gaming experiences to 10s of millions of players.
Overview
As Financial Controller at Reforged Studios, you will be responsible for group-level financial reporting, consolidation of subsidiary accounts, and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions (UK, Malta, and South Africa). This role will involve close collaboration with studio operations, publishing teams, and newly acquired companies, making it essential for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment.
This role is ideal for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with 3-5 years post-qualification experience who wants to work in an exciting, creative, and fast-paced industry. You will play a key role in managing financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, and financial analysis across our group, supporting subsidiary companies and new acquisitions.
What you’ll be doing:
- Prepare financial statements and management reports for UK, Malta, and South Africa subsidiaries.
- Ensure compliance with international accounting standards and support external audits.
- Develop and monitor budgets, conduct forecasting, and provide financial insights for M&A activities.
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations, month-end/year-end closing, and cash flow operations.
- Oversee royalty payments, invoicing, collections, and supplier payments.
- Ensure VAT and corporate tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Support tax incentives, grants, and funding applications (e.g., UK Video Games Tax Relief).
- Conduct financial analysis on game development costs, revenues, and platform fees.
- Identify and implement financial process improvements, especially post-acquisition.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
- 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in financial accounting, ideally in gaming, tech, or entertainment
- Experience in staff management, financial reporting, and tax compliance
- Understanding of cryptocurrency transactions and digital asset accounting (IFRS13)
- Proficient in accounting software (preferably Xero) and advanced Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of financial consolidation and multi-entity accounting
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret complex financial data
- High attention to detail and accuracy in reporting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, working with finance and non-finance teams
- Ability to work independently and as part of an international team across multiple locations
- Proactive, adaptable, and excited to work in a growing and acquisitive company
- Knowledge of current accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry best practices
At Reforged Studios, we care more about outcomes and a willingness to learn rather than you ticking all the boxes. Research shows that some groups are less likely to apply for roles if they don’t meet every single criteria listed; we strongly encourage you to apply anyway!
Note: This is a remote-based role in Malta, so we can only accept applications from candidates who have the right to work in Malta.
How to apply
Our people are our greatest asset, so finding the right fit for our team is extremely important. To do this, we like to understand who you are and what drives you, so to really spark our interest, a cover letter that gives us this insight will be essential in deciding whether we take your application forward.
Interview process
For the Producer role, we plan to have 2 stages:
- Stage 1: Initial call with the line manager for this role, to get to know you better and explore your experience so far.
- Stage 2: You will then have a skills-focused interview where we’ll deep dive into your skills and experience within key areas for this role.
We want to set you up for success and make our recruitment process as accessible as possible. When you apply, let us know if you need anything to make your experience more comfortable and we'll do our best to support you.
