Game Designer - Sports VR platform

A Manchester based VR Development Studio are currently looking for a Game Designer to work on a range of game modes and mini games for their hugely successful SPORTS VR platform. They are currently best in class in their field of high-end VR experiences, which allows users to experience realistic scenarios, whether this be educational, physical training or for treatment use.

As the Game Designer in this team, you’ll take up a dual role of outlining new ideas for the platform, such as prototyping, mechanic design, core game design and interactive narration for the users – you must also bring fun to the experience! You will then own these features and designs and be able to manage deadlines and milestones, advising the best course of action with each project hurdle.
You will work under direction of the Game director and wider leadership team. You will be a beating heart of the development team, rapidly liaising and solving gaps in the GDD or design changes as needed to keep the team moving.
The role will also require excellent documentation skills, Miro, Confluence and Jira knowledge are a massive bonus to anyone considering this role.

This role will promote freedom in your work style and will allow you to be creative with your design – the design is at the heart of all their experiences so it’s important to understand the overall experience of playing the game, rather than focusing solely on the mechanics.
You must be able to take a commercial overview to what sells as a game we are making games for a wide consumer market. Accessible and fun is the key.

This role is a hybrid work pattern, 3 days in the studio near Deansgate. You must be UK based currently and be eligible to work in the UK, no Visa sponsorship is available

Requirements

  • At least 1-2 years’ experience as a Game Designer in the video games or VR industry specifically and able to work to unmoveable deadlines for shipping.
  • A great knowledge of games and an excellent understanding of what makes them work, live and breathe, analyse and be up to date with market leaders and competition.
  • Experienced with Figma, Photoshop and InDesign, (Miro, confluence, Jira) are a big plus.
  • Delivered 1-2 full products on PC, Console or VR platforms.
  • Experience with writing clear and concise specs and feature documentation.
  • Comfortable with presenting to the company and leadership teams, helping shape the experience with external clients also.
  • Excellent project planning and task management skills
  • Exceptional communicator

This is an initial 3 month fixed term contract with the potential to turn into a permanent hire. Salary to £55k.
