Game Designer - UK Midlands

"To apply: Ref - 5244300. We are seeking a talented and motivated Game Designer to join an exciting game studio in the Midlands UK. As a Game Designer, you will be responsible for creating game mechanics, levels and items, and working with other departments to ensure a smooth development process. You will be expected to work independently as well as part of a team, and communicate effectively with other departments to keep everyone informed of your progress.

Responsibilities:

• Design mechanics and items for the project
• Block out levels and populate worlds
• Tend to associated bugs
• Organize playtests to prove concepts, test features, and balance gameplay
• Create documentation for the team
• Estimate work timelines and communicate with production
• Understand the impact of work and advise relevant departments of issues and changes

Personal Skills:

• Ability to work independently to create mechanics and solve problems
• Ability to work well as part of a team and with other departments
• Confident in sharing work and progress regularly and offering help to others
• Effective communication skills within your department and with other departments
• Ability to create or follow a specification
• Effective writing and documentation skills
• Ability to estimate work timelines and communicate with production
• Understanding of the impact of work and ability to advise relevant departments of issues and changes

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in using Unreal Engine, its interface, and specialist workflows like Level design, Material authoring, VFX, UI or AI.
• Competent in Unreal Engine Blueprint ability which includes understanding of bug finding tools and methods
• Confidence using source control, preferably Perforce

Image editing or diagrammatic tools like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator
