Lead Technical Artist – Videogames – Malta – ONSITE ONLY

We are seeking a Lead Technical Artist to play a crucial role in crafting dynamic video game environments. The role is strictly onsite. We offer a relocation package and a dedicated team to help you move and settle in, with an excellent social scene at the studio.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set inspiring goals for your team, effectively planning and prioritizing throughout the year.
• Offer continuous, constructive feedback to team members, celebrating all achievements, large and small.
• Foster impactful communication and encourage an open dialogue within the team.
• Clearly define expectations for team members and hold them accountable for their key outcomes.
• Collaborate with team leads to establish and enhance art production processes and technologies, ensuring they align with artists’ needs for high-quality output within resource constraints.
• Balance the creative vision of projects with technical budget limitations.
• Identify potential project risks and communicate them to management promptly.
• Serve as a go-to resource for the team regarding technical art, providing solutions for complex challenges.
• Optimize content for improved memory usage and performance.
• Contribute to the development of technology roadmaps tailored to project requirements.
• Engage in the creation and rendering of artwork, models, animations, and textures as needed.
• Participate in recruitment efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Over 6 years of experience in technical art or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, Technical Discipline, or equivalent training.
• Experience in a technical art role with at least one shipped game, preferably a full-cycle ‘AAA’ console title.
• Proficiency in 3D graphics software such as 3DS Max or Maya, ideally with advanced scripting capabilities.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with data management software (e.g., Perforce) and various hardware architectures.
• Understanding of compression formats supported by GPU hardware.
• Working knowledge of scripting/programming in languages like MaxScript, Python, C#, etc.
• Awareness of platform strengths and limitations.
• Good understanding of various art and animation pipelines.
• Technical expertise in both 2D and 3D art.
• Fluency in English.
• Experience with procedural open-world content generation.

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Scripting abilities (e.g., Python, C++).
• Experience with physical, fluid, and gas simulations.
• A passion for gaming.
• Keeping up with the latest trends and researching software to inform future tools and processes.
