Senior Gameplay Programmer

The roleAvalanche Studios Group and its incubation team are seeking a Gameplay Programmer for work on a game prototype. This role involves very strong Unreal Engine knowledge and the candidate would take ownership of a broad range of gameplay features, in the context of an authoritative PvP environment.
Who you are

  • Be a key contributor in a prototype team of 6 people, where you are one of two programmers
  • Technical ownership of multiple parallel gameplay feature areas (such as movement, combat, inventory), from concept to implementation
  • Work closely with designers in ensuring that technical solutions are always aligned with short- and long term design goals
  • Share, with rest of team, responsibility for overall prototype stability, health and success

What you'll do

  • 5+ years of professional C++ game development experience in Unreal Engine, including work with the Gameplay Ability System, AI behavior trees, UI, and multiplayer networking.
  • Strong focus on performance and production workflows, including CPU/memory optimization, profiling and debugging, and collaborative development using Perforce.
  • Experienced with Unreal networking, and have a thorough understanding of constraints and best practices when working in an authoritative PvP environment
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping and iteration cycles, including frequent team playtesting and feedbacking
  • Accustomed to working with designers in interpreting and ideating from high-level briefs, in order to find the best technical path to realizing gameplay goals
  • In possession of a “developer first”, player-centric mindset, with user experience prioritized equally to code architecture
  • Motivated by diverse tasks and dynamic areas of responsibility, where any one week might include everything from implementing UI components to network optimization
