Senior Technical Designer UE4/5 Blueprints
Senior Technical Designer, UE4/5 & Blueprints, to work on Fortnite Live Events. Fully remote, UK only, immediate start.
As a freelance Technical Designer, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between design and
development, ensuring the smooth integration of games mechanics and technology. You'll collaborate closely with Designers, Programmers and Artists, to implement and optimise gameplay systems, tools and features.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain gameplay systems using visual and text-based scripting languages (Blueprint, Lua, Python, or similar).
Create and enhance design tools to streamline workflows.
Build prototypes for new gameplay elements to test and iterate on concepts.
Identify and resolve technical issues, ensuring a polished and engaging player experience.
Improve game performance, focusing on memory management, frame rate enhancement, and using UE5’s profiling tools.
Work closely with team members to communicate complex technical concepts in an understandable manner.
Requirements
Expertise in both visual and text-based scripting languages (Blueprint, Lua, Python).
Deep understanding of Unreal Engine workflows, including UE5’s Control Rig, Sequencer, animation systems, Niagara VFX, Nanite, Lumen, materials, and shaders.
Experience in optimising game performance and troubleshooting bottlenecks using UE5's profiling tools.
Strong grasp of game and level design principles.
Previous experience working on games or game-adjacent projects.
Motivation to tackle creative and technical challenges and the ability to analyse and deconstruct the work of others.
Nice to haves
Proficiency in C++ and a good understanding of network replication and its limitations.
Game jam experience.
This is an initial contract until 6th Dec, can be day rate or FTC, with possible extension of permanent hire.
