We are looking for a Senior Web Tools Engineer to join the RuneScape & Old School RuneScape tools team, working on the development and ongoing enhancement of the internal content development tools, pipeline, and associated systems and the development of a major new project within the organisation.  This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with ambition and initiative to join a world-renowned online games company, working on unique, large-scale projects solving some of the most complex and interesting challenges in online gaming.  Job Purpose The Senior Web Tools Engineer will be responsible for helping shape and drive web tooling integration alongside the existing RuneScape tools and pipeline and be a key force in developing future products. How you can contribute:

  • Gain a solid understanding of the tools and pipelines in use on both our live RuneScape titles
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain a new asset and release from source to live environment
  • Generate tasks to meet agreed goals and create documentation detailing code design approach and implementation
  • Develop and propagate a ‘DevOps’ approach to the tools pipeline
  • Enhance and help maintain our existing game engine tooling and pipeline
  • Work closely with the Tools team lead and other engineers to plan and execute the Project Roadmaps
  • Anticipate, identify, and articulate problem areas and develop preventative solutions
  • Adhere to and maintain high software development standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and participate in knowledge sharing across the business

What we need:

  • Experienced in developing public-facing tools, ideally using web technologies
  • Full-stack mindset; Willingness and experience working in frontend and backend technologies
  • Experienced in designing, developing, and integrating RESTful APIs
  • Experience and familiarity with Docker and cloud hosting/deployment technologies
  • Experience creating and working with CI/CD pipelines and associated build tools
  • Experience working in a DevOps culture
  • Solid expertise in at least one modern development framework and an appreciation for selecting the right tool for the job
  • A passion for solving problems, a thirst for knowledge, regardless of the stack
  • Relevant qualification at degree level or equivalent experience

What we'd love:

  • Experience in developing a large-scale game asset pipeline
  • Experience working on a variety of game systems and integrations into 3rd party technologies and APIs
  • Experience with Kubernetes or a related container orchestrator
  • Experience developing Windows tools in Java and/or C#
  • Experience working with a pre-existing, large-scale codebase
  • Additional experience with C++ would be ideal. Other languages and scripting languages (Eg. Python or Lua) would be beneficial
  • Experience with game engines or client-server and MMO games
