We are now seeking a Technical Director to take the reins of our new project’s technical vision, a project moving from the prototyping phase into pre-production.
As the TD for this specific title, you will transition the project from a proven prototype into a scalable, high-performance production. You will be responsible for defining the technical architecture, establishing the long-term engineering roadmap, and ensuring the team has the robust tools and systems needed to bring this ground-breaking experience to market.
What you'll do
- Build the Foundation: Transform a successful prototype into a stable, production-ready system, ensuring the technical foundation is scalable for full-scale development.
- Lead the Transition: Guide the engineering team through the shift from experimentation to pre-production, balancing rapid iteration with long-term code health.
- Unreal Engine Stewardship: Set the standard for Unreal Engine development on the project, overseeing everything from core systems to performance optimization and multiplayer stability.
- Strategic Roadmap: Own the technical roadmap, aligning engineering milestones with creative goals and go-to-market timelines.
- Mentor & Grow: Lead and support a dedicated team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving.
- Cross-Discipline Partnership: Work closely with Art, Design, and Production Directors to ensure technical feasibility and high-performance execution of the game’s creative pillars.
Who you are
- You have a proven track record of taking projects through the full lifecycle, from early concept/pre-production to a successful global launch.
- Extensive experience in Unreal Engine development is a must, specifically regarding how to structure large-scale projects for performance and maintainability.
- You have shipped at least one major title in Unreal Engine, ultimately we are seeking someone with multiplayer experience.
- While you appreciate experimentation, you thrive on bringing order to chaos. You know when to "hack" a prototype and when to "build" a system.
- You are a strong communicator who can mentor senior engineers while clearly explaining technical risks and opportunities to non-technical stakeholders.
- You possess broad technical skills across the game stack and aren't afraid to dive into the code to solve complex architectural challenges.
Note: Research shows under-represented groups in the industry might not apply to a job if they don’t check off every requirement. At Avalanche, we’re more about your drive to learn and interest in tackling challenges than what’s on your resume! So don’t stress if you don’t tick every box— shoot us your application anyway! Diverse opinions and different experiences are what make our teams so great, not itemized lists of qualifications.
