Games Jobs - Writing / Journalism - Brighton

Job Title Video Producer / Presenter - Rock Paper Shotgun
Job Category Editor,Games journalist
Job Description Rock, Paper, Shotgun, the leading PC gaming website, is seeking a team of producer/presenters to spearhead growth of its YouTube channel and create authoritative and entertaining videos that appeal to the established RPS community and the wider YouTube audience. This is an exciting opportunity to join an internationally respected publication as part of an entirely new team. You will work closely with the Editor-In-Chief and, where appropriate, other video teams within Gamer Network.

As well as being a 'face' of the video channel, you will work directly with the existing editorial team, generating ideas and filming content that will appeal to our committed and demanding audience. The Video Producer/Presenters should be in tune with the games, hardware and culture of the PC gaming community and understand how best to cover it in a way that fits with the established RPS style. The primary focus will be YouTube, but the video team will also be creating footage for Facebook and other video platforms.

The ideal candidates will be capable of handling script writing, presenting and video editing. However, these duties will be shared and as we are assembling a new team the balance can be adjusted depending on the candidates. We encourage applications from a diverse range of backgrounds: prior professional experience in either journalism or video is not essential, but you will need to have a demonstrable flair for communicating in video and an understanding of the current PC gaming scene and RPS’s place within it.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Creating and managing video content and assets for RPS on YouTube and other video platforms, from scripting and capturing to editing and publishing
  • Hosting videos, both on-screen and off
  • Creating innovative video content, fresh ideas and stories with the RPS team
  • Building relationships with developers and publishers to deliver relevant and timely videos, attending events in the UK and overseas as required
  • Growing RPS’s video audience and cultivating its unique tone and voice
  • Working to an agreed schedule and producing content on time and to budget, ensuring a balanced channel schedule with new video posted daily
  • Analysing YouTube analytics and other data to track performance and refine best practice
  • Writing and publishing posts and video on the RPS CMS when required
  • Arranging and running livestreams when required
  • To act as an initial/central point of contact for editorial staff and external contacts regarding video production

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Existing video editing skills, with experience of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to write and edit video scripts
  • Experience of publishing to YouTube, and an understanding of the platform’s features and audience
  • A basic understanding of best practice in camera and lighting operation
  • Strong knowledge of PC games, culture and technology
  • The ability and enthusiasm to generate fresh ideas and tell new stories about PC games, gaming performance, hardware and wider PC culture
  • An ability to work under pressure, producing high quality content with a short turnaround
  • Excellent teamwork skills with a track record of collaboration
  • Ability to develop a positive relationship with the existing RPS community.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in presenting to camera
  • Experience of creating live streams, Let’s Plays and video feature content
  • Experience of filming and camera operation in studio and on site
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Prior experience in specialist journalism
  • Experience of running a YouTube channel, proficient with Creator Studio, Analytics and other publishing tools
  • Contacts in the PC gaming and hardware space are an advantage, but not essential.
